Labor Day weekend- Our kickoff to the school year (and the holiday season!!)
What do all of you think of when it's Labor Day? Of course, it's the holiday that celebrates all of the hard
working men and women here in the USA. But, to us, it's the official kickoff to the holiday season and to
the school year. It's the last weekend of "freedom", according to our kids because the Tuesday following
Labor Day (which is typically the first Monday of September, the kids go back to school. For the majority
of adults, we get an extended weekend and a shorter work week.
We celebrate Labor Day, by grilling out with close friends and family. We will to keep it simple. So, some
years, we'll have brats and burgers with cold salads. Other years, we'll try other dishes such as Korean
pork or a BBQ chicken wrapped with butter lettuce. Just like all the other holidays, we just hang out, have
a few cold ones, and just enjoy each other's company. we used to have the tradition of going camping ,
but it's become more difficult because of everyone's busy schedules.
Probably the most exciting part of Labor Day weekend, is the kickoff to the holiday season and the 'Ber
months...September, October, November and December. Hence, the reason we just say the holiday
season. The fall and Halloween decor are out in the stores and you start seeing the commericals for the
holidays. In Sam's house, the fall and some of the Halloween decor is already occupying the walls and
shelves. This is Sam's most favorite time of the year...Christmas is a close second. Everything pumpkin
comes out (the Pumpkin Spice coffee is probably the best one...) and we just wait for the weather to
catch up. As one of the sayings go, "We prefer Sweater Weather over Sweaty Weather."
In conclusion, we get together to celebrate Labor Day and just enjoy the last few days before school
begins. ( We know that some states have already started school.) Also, we are officially into the 'Ber
months and the kickoff to the holiday season. Let us know in the comments what your traditions are for
Labor Day!
And lastly, we just wanted to say-- HAPPY LABOR DAY EVERYONE!!
