Balancing Fitness, Family, and a 50+ Hour Work Week: My Real-Life Journey (The Highs, Lows & Everything In Between)
5/11/20262 min read
If you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying everything—the household, the mental load, your job, and somehow still trying to take care of your health—this is for you. This is my real, unfiltered fitness journey. Not the “perfect routine” version. The actual version. Because the truth? It’s messy. It’s exhausting. And some days, it feels impossible.
The Reality of Being “Everyone’s Go-To Person”
As a mom, a partner, and someone working 50+ hours outside the home, I’ve naturally become the go-to person for...well, everything.
Meals
Schedules
Appointments
Emotional support
Household management
And somewhere in that list... me.
Trying to prioritize my health sometimes feels like I’m taking time away from everyone else. And that guilt? It’s real. But here’s what I’m learning:
Taking care of myself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary.
The Food Struggle Is Real (Especially in a Household with Different Tastes)
Let’s talk about one of the biggest challenges: food. No one in my household likes the same meals. Which means I’m constantly juggling preferences, complaints, and convenience.
Right now:
I’m consistent with breakfast and lunch during the week
But dinners? They’ve been a struggle
Weekends? Even harder
And mentally, that’s been weighing on me. Because when you’re already stretched thin, making multiple meals or trying to please everyone can feel overwhelming.
The Mental Battle Behind the Scenes
This journey hasn’t just been physical—it’s deeply mental. I struggle with:
Trying to make everyone happy
Feeling like I’m falling short
The pressure of “doing it all”
And when things aren’t perfect (like dinners or weekends), it’s easy to spiral into frustration. But I’m actively working on shifting that mindset. Because perfection isn’t the goal—progress is.
The One Thing I’m Not Giving Up: My Walks. Even on the hardest days, there’s one thing I’ve stayed consistent with:
Walking. It might not seem like much, but it’s become my reset. It clears my mind. Reduces stress. Helps me feel stronger physically. Gives me a moment for myself.
Some days, it’s the only thing I do for my health—and honestly? That’s enough. Because it keeps me going.
Learning to Stay Positive (Even When It’s Hard)
I won’t pretend I have it all figured out. I’m still navigating:
Time management
Meal planning struggles
Mental burnout
Mom guilt
But I am choosing to stay positive and keep showing up.
Even if it looks like:
Packing my breakfasts and lunches during the week
Taking my daily walks
Letting go of “perfect” dinners
Giving myself grace on the weekends
What This Journey Is Really Teaching Me
This isn’t just about weight loss or fitness.
It’s about:
Building consistency in a busy life
Learning to prioritize myself without guilt
Accepting that not every day will be perfect
Finding small wins and holding onto them
And most importantly... Not quitting, even when it feels hard
If You’re in the Same Season...
If you’re balancing work, kids, a household, and your own health... If you feel stretched thin and overwhelmed... If you’re trying but feel like it’s not enough... I see you. You’re not alone in this. And what you’re doing does matter—even the small things.

Final Thoughts: Progress Over Perfection
My fitness journey isn’t perfect. It’s not aesthetic. It’s not always “on track.” But it’s real. And right now, real looks like:
Showing up when I can. Giving myself grace when I can’t. And continuing forward anyway. Because at the end of the day, that’s what this journey is about. Keep going. Even if it’s messy.
Deuces!
